Many people have different things that they are passionate about. Some have various advocacies that they stand by. Others are extremely passionate about their hobbies or careers. Then, there are those who take it to the next level, mixing their passion with business.
While monetizing their passion has had good results for some of these people, can you expect the same for yourself? Well, that depends on the circumstances you are in.
Why Do You Want to Monetize It in the First Place?
These people have their own reasons for putting a price on their passion. Most of the time, it is to take advantage of the financial opportunity that they see. They get to practice what they love and earn from it at the same time. It is a win-win situation.
If you love to cook and bake, for instance, one good idea is to open a soft pretzel shop or a small cafe. The money you earn from doing what you love should be a good enough reason to start your own business venture. Not to mention that you will also get to help improve the local economy and give jobs to other people. And of course, you will also give the neighborhood something new to look forward to.
Sure, it may be hard to put up and maintain your own passion-based business, but once you get the hang of it, you will have a consistent source of income. But, there are those who think otherwise.
Sold Out or Sellout?
If you manage to monetize your passion, you may think that you finally have made your dreams come true. But at the back of your mind, a tiny voice may tell you that you have sold yourself out and given in to pressure.
There is this notion that our passions should not be monetized in any form or way. It is supposed to be something that gives us pure joy and relief. You do not see other people helping the poor asking for something in return, right? So, why should you?
Well, in a perfect world, we should be able to pursue our passions without having to worry about our finances. But, that is just not the case for a huge chunk of the population. Not all of us have a comfortable financial security blanket to rely on.
So, you should not feel down or threatened whenever somebody tells you that monetizing your passion is a crime. Instead, you should be thankful that you have the opportunity to make money on a thing that you find joy in. It makes work so much easier to do. Some might even say that it is not even work because you are doing something that you love and enjoy.
Should you put a price on your passion? Well, that is up to you. But if you have the opportunity to do so, then you should grab the chance. It is not every day that you will get to see such chances in life.
